Cultural Event Grants

The purpose of the Cultural Event grant is to support communities, groups and individuals of Longmont in celebrating the diversity of cultures within Longmont. The city of Longmont provides mini-grants of up to $800 to support new events or enhance projects which contribute to the diversity of community events.

Landlord Training

A collaborative program between the Longmont Police Department and Community and Neighborhood Resources announces its programming for January through April 2012. The Landlord Training Alliance is held every second Wednesday of the month at: the Longmont Senior Center, 910 Longs Peak Ave., Rooms D & E, 6:15 to 8:30 p.m.

Each monthly training has been approved by the Colorado Division of Real Estate for 2 hours of Continuing Education Units (CEU's) for licensed Realtors.

Jan. 11 -- Boulder County Trends: The Community Foundation's Report on Key Indicators

Morgan Rogers, Civic Forum Director at The Community Foundation will present The Foundation's biannual snapshot of the economic, demographic, educational, governmental and housing trends in Boulder County. The Civic Forum promotes healthy decision-making through informed research and longitudinal vision and serves as a guide to The Community Foundation's programmatic work and grant making by examining how Boulder County has grown and changed in the last 10 years. For example, what percentage of our children are graduating from high school? How has the county's median income changed since the recession? What do these kinds of statistics really tell us?

Feb. 8 -- Renting to Tenants With Special Needs

A panel discussion with Mike Butler, chief of the Longmont Police Department; Michele Waite, Longmont Senior Services manager; and Christina Pacheco, Longmont Youth Services manager, on the types of services available when your renters need help.

March 14: Can Tenants Really Withhold Rent?

Manuel Ramos is the director of advocacy for Colorado Legal Services. He has more than 30 years' experience as a legal aid attorney representing tenants. As well, he is the author of several novels and short stories. Learn from him what you need to do to stay in compliance with Colorado's Warranty of Habitability law.

April 11 -- Immigration Law and the Landlord/Tenant Relationship

Laurel Herndon of the Immigrant Legal Center of Boulder County will answer all those questions you have, such as: Can I refuse to rent to someone if they don't have a valid U.S. identification? Can I refuse to rent to someone who doesn't speak English? Is my lease still valid if my tenants don't read English? Can I check if prospective tenants are working legally in the U.S.? Bring your own questions for Laurel.
